Mother and child die after building collapse on them – A 31-year-old mother and her one-year-old son have reportedly met their untimely death after they were trapped in a building that collapsed on them at Akrobi Old Town in the Wenchi
Municipality of the Bono Region.
According to reports, the mother and her son were trapped under the collapsed building on Monday, 12 July when her husband had just moved out to get some foodstuffs for the house.
The husband of the deceased identified as Kwabena Badara Fiagra tells the story that his wife had strapped their one-year-old son at her back while she was working around the house when the building collapsed, adding that they were at the exact position when the accident happened.
Mr. Fiagra blamed the incident on the bad state of the building, adding that they had already planned to move into another apartment.
Meanwhile, a National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) officer and coordinator for Akrobi Zone, Abudu Mohammed, said he had warned the landlord of the dilapidated state of the building, but his advice was not heeded.
Together with the Assembly Member, Winston Gyan, and the NADMO Officials, their bodies were retrieved from the debris and deposited at Wenchi Methodist Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
