Famed Ghanaian pastor Samuel Henry, better known as Prophet Roja has made it into the headlines once again after publicly predicting that President John Dramani Mahama will defy expectations and run for a third term and win in Ghana’s 2028 elections.
The prophecy comes against a backdrop of earlier, categorical assurances from the president that he would not contest again.
Speaking on Angel FM with Ohemaa Sakyiwaa, the prophet insisted the third-term bid is imminent. He said;
“I have seen that [John Mahama] is going for the third term and he will win the elections, that is that.”
He told host Ohemaa Sakyiwa there are behind-the-scenes talks already underway, and as far as he foresees nothing can stop the plan once it concludes.
He also called on other potential 2028 presidential hopefuls to hold back on campaigns, arguing that “their aspirations would not bear fruit in the near future.”
According to him, anyone hoping to contest should “save your money for some eight to sixteen years.”
Prophet Roja concluded by urging the public to wait patiently for an official announcement, promising to reveal more details when the time comes.
The prediction stands in stark contrast to repeated statements by President Mahama and his administration.
In August 2025, during a high-profile bilateral visit to Singapore, Mahama pledged publicly that he would not contest the 2028 elections and committed to upholding Ghana’s two-term presidential limit under the constitution.
The president argued that stepping aside would allow him to maintain fiscal discipline and avoid the overspending commonly seen during election years.
Ghana’s supreme law, the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, under Article 66(2), explicitly caps presidential service at two terms a constitutional constraint frequently cited by critics of third-term aspirations.
