Newcastle’s prospective new owners will reportedly pursue Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale as their first ‘marquee signing’ this summer.
The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund have seen a £300m bid accepted by current owner Mike Ashley, and are now awaiting Premier League approval to officially take over.
According to Marca, signing Bale would materialise their ‘clear ambition’ to restore Newcastle back to the top of English football.
Bale – who still has two years left on his current deal – almost left Madrid last summer before a move to Jiangsu Suning broke down.
The report also claims that Mauricio Pochettino is their favourite to replace Steve Bruce at St James’ Park.
Bale has endured a difficult campaign under Zinedine Zidane, scoring just two goals in 14 league appearances.
