The hashtag ‘Kick Nana Out’ is trending on Twitter after President Nana Akufo-Addo was embarrassingly called out by the French news agency AFP for lying about Ghana’s COVID-19 testing regime.
A fact check by the AFP concluded that Nana Akufo-Addo’s claim in his last televised address that Ghana has tested more people per million than every other country on the continent is false.
“Our country has administered more tests per million people than any other country in Africa, and, in fact, the World Health Organization… has reached out to us to share our sample-pooling experience with other African countries, so they can adopt this strategy and also ramp up their testing capabilities,” Nana Addo said.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) ran a fact check on the claim and discovered that South Africa and at least two other countries on the continent have tested more people.
AFP revealed the deception in an article entitled “Ghana leader falsely claims his country fronts Africa’s COVID-19 testing,”
That fact check emerged on Ghana Twitter tonight and put Akufo-Addo into trouble.
‘Kick Nana Out’ is now trending on Twitter with Ghanaians complaining that the president has embarrassed us all.
