John Mahama pledges to build an inclusive nation in Christmas message

President-elect of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his commitment to creating an inclusive and prosperous nation under his upcoming administration. In a heartfelt Christmas message on December 25, Mahama expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for electing him as their next President.

In his statement, Mahama said:

As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and the values He lived in His own life, I wish to thank you, the good people of Ghana, for bestowing on me the opportunity to serve you as your President and Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.

He also pledged to work in the best interest of all citizens, stating:

I wish to also reaffirm my determination to build a nation that works for all, a prosperous and democratic state anchored in the principles of freedom, justice, accountability, and equal opportunities for all.

John Mahama was officially announced as the President-elect on December 9, 2024, by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa. Mahama won with 6,328,397 votes (56.55%), leading Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who garnered 4,657,304 votes (41.61%).

The president-elect is scheduled to be officially sworn in on January 7, 2025. Mahama has already expressed his commitment to addressing corruption and improving public sector efficiency to drive the country’s development.

In a recent interview with Germany-based DW TV, he shared plans for bold reforms aimed at enhancing governance, improving accountability, and reducing waste in public institutions.

He acknowledged widespread public dissatisfaction with poor resource management, governance failures, and the country’s escalating debt levels. Mahama described corruption and inefficiency as key challenges that impede national progress, emphasising the need for systemic changes to achieve economic stability and good governance.
