Ghanaians have called for Ken Ofori-Atta to be immediately jailed after claiming he acted in the best interest of the public during his time in office as Finance Minister.
Ofori-Atta oversaw the worst economic crisis in generations that shot Ghana’s cost of living up and left many Ghanaians in a financial crisis.
While many Ghanaians called for his resignation due to failure, including many MPs of his own NPP party, Ofori-Atta, who is Akufo-Addo’s cousin, stayed in power until 2024.
Many Ghanaians were also ‘pissed’ due to the fact that he was allegedly personally benefiting from Ghana going into debt as he was receiving a fee everytime the country borrowed. Shockingly, Ghana borrowed the most it ever has under Ofori-Atta’s regime.
Following the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections, Ghanaians called for corrupt officials of the NPP to be held accountable and the Office of the Special Prosecutor did just that, announcing Ofori-Atta was wanted for his role in three corruption scandals.
The former Minister has now returned to Ghana and expressed shock at being investigated. According to him, everything he did was for the good of Ghanaians.
However, social media users rubbished his claim and called for him to be jailed immediately!
“Why’s he not in prison already,” one netizen wrote.
Another said: “He need to be jail by now,”
