Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard hasn’t give up hope of signing Napoli forward Dries Mertens this summer.
Mertens is yet to sign a new deal with the Italian, with his contract set to expire this summer.
Lampard was interested in taking the forward in January as he looked to replace Olivier Giroud, who was almost certain to depart in the winter window.
According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Lampard has now made direct contact with the 32-year-old regarding a summer move to Stamford Bridge.
Talks are currently on standby between Mertens and Napoli, and Chelsea are looking to pounce to land him.
The Blues are looking to bolster their attacking options to support no.9 Tammy Abraham. Olivier Giroud has had his contract extended by a year, while Michy Batshuayi looks destined to depart the club.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Timo Werner and Moussa Dembele have also all been shortlisted by Chelsea.
